As mentioned on a previous page, microphones are a key component in getting good quality sound, and as in so many areas of our lives - “You get what you pay for.”
Microphones are often a personal choice, with recordists preferring to stick with a manufacturer they know and trust rather than move to another make with all the uncertainties a change will bring.
Inquit Audio has been actively researching lavalier mics, and has several - from surprisingly good ones at £30, through to very expensive ones which are certainly good at £160. The more budget-conscious models are in daily use in projects across the country and giving good service. But the £160 AT831 does have the edge when quality is paramount.
Now we’ve found what could be the “perfect” middleweight/middle price lavalier - the AKG C417PP - at £90.
